Hanakotoba

Exhibition no. 2.- Hanakotoba. Solo show by Adriana Maar, painting. From Friday, June 26th, to Friday, August 14th, 2015..

The artist is the confidant of nature, flowers carry on dialogues with him through the graceful bending of their stems and the harmoniously tinted nuances of their blossoms. Every flower has a cordial word which nature directs towards him.

Auguste Rodin

The recent series of work by Adriana Maar, composes a typological meditation of images registered in a very particular form of abstraction. The artist incorporates to the highly reductive impression of the formal content, an empathetic aspect generated by the representation of a subtle statement about emotions. Each piece explores a different choice of color, a different kind of flower and a different sentimental experience. The result looks like a chain of paintings – most of them presented in unit, and others in polyptych – in terms of a rhythmic gradient, which refers to the light spectrum or the rainbow phenomenon.

On the other hand, the structural interrelationship between the artworks, goes in the sense of what was raised in the abstract field from the avant-garde era, particularly in the neoplasticist poetic of Piet Mondrian. That is, what you can see on a canvas is simultaneously, a fragmentary image of a huge and incomprehensible cosmos a total area in itself, which accounts for a universe of order.

This visual condition – both elemental and consummated – is even more evident, given the iconic motif proposed by Adriana Maar. An elegant warp of energy bands that play with floral patterns, arranged in modules in a finish of hard edge colors. An immaculate smoothness manifests itself in the compositional arrangements, which results in the appearance of striated metrics, providing a great diversity of optical temperatures.

The discursive statement takes the viewer from the empire of the magenta to the burnished reds, from the allusion of the Lily to the Azalea, and from the reference of hatred all the way through patience. Displaying the effect of sone kind of pro-industrial aesthetic prayer (linked to a sensitivity in the area of design) or a pattern & decoration mantra, resulting very stimulating.

Oddly enough, these series also seem like a transferable personal confession to the subjectivity of any spectator: it is a brief platform of images related to Pop, which translates – as Roy Lichtenstein did with his brush strokes, which moved the representation of the mechanical texture of offset, the mark of gestural strokes – the melancholic and joyful experience of observing a phenomenal rainbow, in a geometrical and impersonal version of it.

Against the background of the articulate discourse by the artist, in this work lies a suggestive proposition that gives meaning – perhaps – to the title that seems to inspire the production of the paintings. Infatuation, true love, happiness, goodbye (and the colors and flowers that they refer), are extreme experiences that hide the strength of other powerful borders: The chaotic turbulence of every principle and mysterious lighting of temperance.
